What is ‘Bleisure’ & How Can Modern Stylists Manage Combining Work and Travel?
The term ‘bleisure’, a combination of business and leisure, is becoming a commonly used term as simultaneously working and traveling becomes more common.
Holistic Business and Life Coach, Sonia Magnier, explains that you can find calm wherever you are, and how to manage simultaneously working and traveling.
Several Benefits
“Mixing leisure and work days whilst traveling offers several benefits, firstly it can support Work Life Balance. It’s a great opportunity to explore new places, cultures, and experiences, providing relaxation and rejuvenation, and can help maintain a healthier life balance, reducing stress and burnout. Exposure to new environments and experiences can contribute to personal growth and broaden perspectives which can boost overall job satisfaction.”
Realistic Schedule
Indulging in ‘bleisure’ requires healthy boundaries and personal discipline, which takes time to get just right. Sonia recommends setting a realistic schedule and sticking to it to assist with finding that balance and feeling comfortable in it.
Sonia Shares Her Top ‘Bleisure’ Tips
Plan Out Your Schedule
“If you have the flexibility to choose which days you work, I personally prefer to work first and then have leisurely time to switch off and reward myself afterwards! If it’s done the other way around your headspace might be consumed with the work you have to do so may prevent you properly switching off.”
Switch On, Then Switch Off – Don’t Get Caught In Between
“I like to do all of my work in one go then switch off, whether it’s an hour or five, I like to commit to working 100% when I’m doing it. I wouldn’t suggest dipping in and out of work if you can help it as it’ll leave your mental space in limbo not allowing you to ever actually switch off and be present for
your leisure time.”
Clear Communication
“Whether that be with your travel companions or work colleagues, letting people know when you’re working and when you’re not will manage everyone’s expectations of you either on the holiday, or at home in the office.”
Recharge Through Your Routine
“People often underestimate how demanding working whilst traveling can be, your giving energy to both your work and your leisure experiences, both can be taxing in different ways. When I’m simultaneously traveling and working I like to practice yoga every day to feel grounded, as well as practicing mindfulness and connecting back with myself through meditation so I can complete my work well, as well as savouring the new experiences.”
