Swapping scissors for running shoes
Founder of Little Lady Locks children’s hair loss charity, Ashley Marie Higgins, swapped her scissors for her trainers and ran the Manchester Half Marathon on Sunday 13th October.
Originally inspired by one little girl’s story, Ashley set out to raise £500 to provide a wig for a young girl with Stage 4 cancer, as soon as possible. With limited funds, Ashley has to manage this, so she took to fundraising herself to bridge the gap and speed up this girl’s much-needed wig.

Fundraising
“Since starting the charity back in 2018, my time has been dedicated to running the charity behind the scenes, but I have never actually done a fundraiser myself as such. I wanted to join our amazing supporters and try to raise funds with you. A run on this scale was definitely challenging for me, I am by no means a runner, and having all the kids we help in mind has kept my focus throughout training
and run on Sunday,” – Ashley.
Smashing Targets
The good news is that Ashley smashed her initial target of raising £500 even before her run. Ashley is keen to raise as much as she can to be able to help more children. Currently, the charity has over 35 referrals with children waiting for support with their hair loss.
Finish Time
Ashley completed the Manchester Half Marathon, a gruelling 13.1-mile challenge in an amazing time of 2hrs 40 among 24,000 fellow runners from Old Trafford and the streets of the charity’s city.
