MAKE THE CUT
Cult styling brand ghd has hosted this year’s auditions for its dynamic young creative team the ghd style squad, after a record number of applications.
More than 100 stylists from across the UK applied, from which 34 were invited to audition over two days at ghd’s London studio in Soho.
Each stylist was asked to do a ten minute demonstration on a model, showcasing their interpretation of this season’s curl trends and creating it with a ghd styler. “This came as a complete surprise as we had deliberately not told them in advance,” explains Jo Robertson, ghd head of UK and ROI education, “but it was a fantastic way for us to see their skills in action.”
Each member of the group then presented a pre-prepared moodboard focusing on ‘Brand- Me’ to give the judges, who included brand ambassadors Ken Picton and Zoe Irwin – an insight into their personality, passions and inspirations.
In total, 16 ghd style squad members wore chosen. “It should have been 12 but we had an additional four we couldn’t leave out!” said Jo.
Zoe added: “As someone that’s trend obsessed, I particularly like the interviews where, in front of the panel of judges, they show a moodboard illustrating their own world, their hair world and influences, music and personal style. I love listening to where they want to go in the diverse world of hair.”
