BERRY NICE

Hair is warming up for winter: those cool icy blonde shades that have been in such demand this year, particularly over summer, are going to be replaced by ruddier shades, such as cranberry and raspberry, as well as more natural shades of gold and copper, once winter arrives. Fashion is responsible for this shift from cooler tones to warmer shades of berry, cherry and rust: for a great visual reference look at the Fashion Week Autumn/Winter ‘18 shows, particularly Desigual, A. V. Robertson and Miu Miu. If bolder red shades don’t appeal, then opt for a more natural hue, but stick to a warmer colour palette.

CHERRY PICKED

Summer may be over, but the influence of punchy fruity shades isn’t. Watermelon pink was hugely popular with clients over the summer, especially for festivals, and I predict that over winter we’ll be seeing more requests for slightly more intense shades of cherry pink: think of this vibrant shade as the new millennial pink. At Miu Miu A/W ‘18 models sported this fruity hue all over, but if a full head of cherry-red is just a little too look-at-me, then consider adding just a few muted cherry-pink coloured sections through the ends – as seen in our New Dawn collection. 

GEM LIGHTS

This season, we will see multiple crystal tones worked into blonde hair for a subtly colourful finish. This gives an ombre effect, and while ombre is nothing new – pink ombre is. With baby blonde, silver or white roots, blending effortlessly into the subtlest and gentlest frosted pastel tones (think rose quartz crystal and amethyst purple), this look is an easy way to delicately dip into the pink trend, with minimal commitment and less of the confidence needed to pull off a bold, statement, all-over shade of pink. Play around with how much of the root you leave white and how much colour you add to the ends, and increase the depth and intensity of the pink in the ends, for more of a statement finish. This look from our Envision collection (right) is heavy on the white roots and has minimal colour placement through the ends, but as the colour contrast is very intense, it still has a dramatic effect.

HEAVY METAL

Metallic highlights are about to become a huge mainstream look and with good reason. Already kicking up a social media storm, these shades are hugely wearable, suitable for pretty much everyone and ridiculously flattering, giving hair a super glossy, ultra modern finish. Rose gold was last year’s take on metallics, and this year is set to be more rose copper gold (instead of mauve undertones, this season it will be softer and warmer). This year I predict we will see metallics play out in a variety of unexpected shades and combinations. Adding metallic brown highlights is a really gorgeous and playful way to transform brunette hair subtly, while adding depth and shine and the appearance of increased volume. I predict that metallic silver will also be popular, but as an addition to brunette hair, to cool down warmer tones, rather than just in lighter platinum and white locks. What I really love about the metallics trend is that it offers so much scope for experimentation, and colours can be mixed to produce a huge variety of multi-tonal looks.
