HIGH SOCIETY

‘Use Old Hollywood and Fifties’ high society as your two style references for this season’s curls. For catwalk inspiration from Fashion Week A/W19, look no further than Mark Fast, whose models sported pin curls piled high on the head, inspired by Fifties’ pin-up girls; and Ryan Lo, who brought back the era’s classic finger waves. Our new blow-dry collection, a portfolio of on-trend styles we’ve translated into a blow-dry menu for our clients, features Glam Girl (above) which is full of ultra-luxurious waves, while this image from our Rise collection (below) really nails the luxe waves trend clients will be clamouring for this season’.

BRAID WINNER

‘Braids and plaits went down a storm this season. At Tory Burch long plaits were woven oh so tightly, while twinning was winning at Prada, where twin plaits reigned supreme. This season I predict that braids will be a seasonal must-have for many, and the longer the better. The beauty of braids is that they can be switched up according to your clients’ needs. Boxer braids with a sharp centre parting are becoming a hit with our gym lovers, but for those looking for a more chic, night-time take on the trend, why not try a dishevelled rope-twisting technique, as created for a recent shoot I did based on the AW19 trends (below)’.

‘I also love the textured, deconstructed up-do from our Bad Apple Hair Rise collection (below). It’s a modern style that is full of contradictions: its bold texture exudes attitude, yet it manages to give off a gentle, romantic, bohemian vibe – perfect for AW19. The rope-twisted knots are full of body and hold, yet appear soft and expensively shiny. It’s an up-do – a style that is inherently intricate and detailed, yet it comes across as relaxed, unstructured and wearable. In spite of all these contradictions it’s a style that is incredibly harmonious, beautiful and stylish – perfect for the new season’.

MY LITTLE PONY

‘Ponies are a hit season after season, but for AW19 we’re loving the low-key vibes of the half-up, half-down style, as seen at some of the stand out shows of the season, most notably Chanel, where beautifully adorned brooches and clips gave this look some extra sparkle. This style I created for the new season (pictured below) is perfect for clients looking to take their look from dusk ‘til dawn, as the staying power of this simple pony and loose, tousled waves are the perfect partner for AW19’.

HATS THE WAY TO DO IT

‘We’ve become so used to seeing volumized roots and hair that’s full of body, that the low-volume hair trend that swept across the fashion capitals of the world during Fashion Week AW19 looks really new, modern and refreshing. When trying out this uber-sleek no-volume hair trend on your clients remember: no matter how you get there, the overall finish should be the same – think flattened roots of the sort you’d end up with if you’d been sporting a hat all day. As we saw at Fashion Week, there are various different ways you can interpret this look. At Tom Ford slick roots looked sleek and elegant, paired with chic low chignons; Markus Lupfer’s models tucked slicked-down centre-parted locks into scarves, for a weathered look; and at Roberto Cavalli, we observed that volume isn’t always required to create maximum sex appeal – and if you still need convincing, check out the French Girl blow-dry from our blow-dry collection (below) – proof of how effortlessly sexy a lack of volume can actually be. Proenza Schouler, Helmut Lang and Alexa Chung rather appropriately interpreted the trend as a swept-back biker chick look, but your clients don’t need to don a helmet all day to achieve the same effect. Instead blow-dry smooth and flat to the crown, slick hair down, and smooth the roots using plenty of mousse to add enough weight to hold down the hair’.

ALL PARTIED OUT

‘This trend isn’t so much about a defined look, but more about the vibe the hair evokes: it’s essentially any look that tells the world you had a seriously good time last night. At Richard Malone’s show hair looked seriously partied in – messy mohawks, soft frizz, post-party grime and an abundance of texture characterized styles that screamed out-all-night. Over at Celine, the look was sleeker and neater, yet equally partied-in and evocative of locks that had been to bed, but not necessarily been to sleep. This kind of cool girl hair is deceptively difficult to recreate – there’s a fine line between a hot mess and just a mess – but we’ve nailed it with Run Wave, a style from our latest blow-dry collection. Sort of wavy, kind of straight, this effortless off-duty model look boasts texture, sex appeal and attitude in abundance – the perfect new season style’.
