John Freida and the hairdressing community have helped to raise £2 million for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity

This marks the end of the HAIRraising appeal which launched in 2010 and which brought together members of the UK hairdressing industry to fundraise for the charity. They took part in events such as the annual Round the Island Ibiza Cycle Challenge.

The appeal was founded by John Frieda and since then they have doubled their initial fundraising target of £1 million to help make a difference to seriously ill children from across the UK.

The money raised by the HAIRraising appeal has supported the much needed redevelopment of the hospital, including helping to fund new operating theatres and a new respiratory unit. The new operating theatres opened in 2012 and have helped surgical teams to carry out procedures in state of the art facilities.

The brand new Respiratory Unit will be based in the Premier Inn Clinical Building, part of the Mittal Children’s Medical Centre, and will officially open next autumn. This vital new building will see cramped, outdated wards replaced with essential facilities providing space for a parent to stay by the child’s bedside overnight.

John Frieda said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have raised an incredible £2 million for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. From bike rides and challenges to in-salon fundraising, I’m so proud of everything we’ve achieved for such a worthy cause and I’d like to thank everyone who has supported us and donated over the years.”

Tim Johnson, Chief Executive at Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity’s said: “An enormous thank you to John Frieda and everyone in the British hairdressing industry involved in the HAIRraising appeal for raising a phenomenal £2 million for the hospital. The new specialist spaces this has helped create in the hospital has, and will, improve the quality of care and increase the number of children we can treat.”

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity will still be encouraging the hairdressing community to continue it’s fantastic fundraising to help it to fund the hospitals most urgent needs.
