Q Hair and Beauty Set For Charity Run
It will be a first for two members of staff at Q Hair and Beauty when they line up for the start of the Brighton Run2Music half marathon on Saturday, May 11, hoping to raise as much money as possible for charities close to their heart.
The Causes
Hair stylist director Rachel Waller will be running in aid of the Uganda Lodge Community Project where she spent several weeks as a volunteer a year ago. The project has a school and housing for over 500 children aged between two and 16, as well as a medical centre, hair salon, sewing room, training restaurant and lodges. It urgently needs money to continue and develop its invaluable work. Joining Rachel on the run will be Q beauty therapist Abbie Hodge who will be raising funds for Dementia UK.
First Of Firsts
Neither of the girls, who work at both the Q salons in Chichester and Midhurst, have covered a half marathon distance before. Their decision to take part came about when they went out on a run together and after just two miles decided a sponsored effort would be a great idea to raise money for two very good causes. They are now training hard and so far have completed several seven-mile distances together, but know they have to focus on stepping up their stamina levels for the half marathon.
In Training
With Rachel and Abbie on the day and already in training will be Daniel Riella, Rachel’s partner and the sous chef at the New Street Bar and Grill in Petworth. He volunteered at the Uganda project alongside Rachel and the couple plan to return next year to help the hard-working team there.
Setting Targets
Friends and colleagues are right behind the fundraising effort and sponsoring Rachel and Abbie who have not set themselves a definite target other than successfully completing the distance and hopefully raising several hundred pounds for each charity.
