TREVOR SORBIE HONORARY DOCTORATE
On 11th July at the Paisley Campus graduation ceremony, Trevor Sorbie was presented with an Honorary Doctorate. This Doctorate recognises his outstanding contribution in the field of business and entrepreneurship, and social awareness of suffering and crisis in cancer patients. What makes this so special is Trevor’s incredible hairdressing journey began over 50 years ago in Paisley, Scotland, where he recently revisited to create his latest documentary.
The pioneering, non-profit charity, mynewhair, offers a wig customising service for people suffering from cancer and medical hair loss, and celebrated its tenth year in business last year. Now working with leading cancer centres it enables more patients to access the wig styling service and so the charity is experiencing increasing demand and an increase in referrals. Trevor continues to run monthly workshops to train other hairdressers in the art of wig customisation, and works closely with the NHS to ensure that this service can become widely available to all those who need it. As the charity continues to grow, with the support of L’Oréal, Trevor will be rolling the mynewhair concept worldwide in the coming years.
