NHBF Calls on Hair & Beauty Sector to Keep Sharing Insights for Stronger Government Representation

NHBF Calls on Hair & Beauty Sector to Keep Sharing Insights for Stronger Government Representation
Sam Robinson

As the new Prime Minister pledges to make a difference in 100 days, Caroline Larissey reflects upon her journey as she’s 200 days into the role of Chief Executive of the National Hair & Beauty Federation (NHBF).

Celebrating the incredible passion and resilience of our sector, one of the most crucial insights she’s had during the lead-up to the election is the absolute importance of amplifying our voice. The voice of the sector in influencing and educating all those in government and the wider Parliament about the key issues that affect our businesses day to day.

Skills Crisis
“How we portray ourselves and represent our sector is crucial to its future longevity. We’re facing a skills crisis, and times are tough. With a new government in place, things are changing rapidly. Crucially, we need to recruit new talent into the sector. We must be professional, honest, and open, championing the positive aspects of our sector that we’re all hugely proud of,” – Caroline.

Surveys Are Vital
“Participation in NHBF surveys is not just valuable; it’s vital. These have been consistently completed for over 3 years. These surveys are our direct line to policymakers, allowing us to present a clear, data-driven picture of the challenges and opportunities facing our sector. They’re not about individual egos or self-gain or parts of the industry – they’re about collectively shaping the future of our sector.

We’ve seen first-hand how your input through previous surveys has influenced government decisions. From securing additional support during the pandemic to shaping apprenticeship policies, your voices have made a real difference. Remember, when we speak to Government, it’s not our voice they’re hearing – it’s yours!” – Caroline.

Take Part Now
For this reason, the NHBF urges everyone to continue participating in their surveys, or to take part if they haven’t before. Each response strengthens the ability to advocate effectively on your behalf. Together, we can ensure that the hair and beauty sector’s needs and concerns are heard, understood, and acted upon at the highest levels.

In light of recent discussions and speculation within the sector, the NHBF reaffirms their stance:

  • We will continue to provide accurate, timely information to our members and the wider sector, just as we did during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • We refuse to engage in or perpetuate scaremongering, which we believe is detrimental to our sector.
  • We will maintain our integrity and hold our heads above the noise, focusing on facts rather than speculation.
  • We are committed to fully informing our members, and the wider sector, about the progress of relevant bills and any government-implemented changes in real-time.
  • Our mission remains to support safe, legal, and profitable businesses in our sector.

Advocate Effectively
“It’s crucial that we continue to present professional front as a sector. I encourage everyone to engage with the NHBF’s official channels for accurate information and to participate in our initiatives. Active involvement strengthens our collective voice and enhances our ability to advocate effectively,”- Caroline.

As we all navigate the evolving landscape of our sector, it’s more important than ever that the NHBF maintains their reputation for reliability and integrity. By focusing on facts and constructive dialogue, they can address challenges and seize opportunities in a manner that benefits all of us.

Continue To Thrive
“The voice of our members and their experiences are at the heart of what we do. Together, we can ensure that the hair and beauty sector continues to thrive, innovate, and make a significant contribution to the broader economy. Let’s continue to work proactively, champion our sector, share our expertise, and shape a positive future for our profession,” – Caroline.
