M.A.D About Salons, a new education platform which stands for mentor, absorb and digest, is bursting on to the hairdressing scene with a collaborative and affordable approach to hairdressing and salon business education.
What’s more, the platform will have funds available to salons that cannot afford education, creating an equal playing field for all.
The Founders
Founded by Janene Hawkins-Bush and Mikaela Martin, M.A.D About Salons offers a unique approach to learning by harnessing the power of skill swapping. The idea was conceived after Mikaela and Janene found themselves grappling with the challenges faced by Salon Owners, particularly the soaring costs of education and the multitude expenses associated with running a business. Their shared concern led to a ground-breaking idea; how could they reduce costs without compromising on the quality of education and services? M.A.D About Salons revolutionises the way salon owners approach skill development, fostering growth for both their teams and businesses.
Swapping
“The concept of ‘swapping’ is becoming common place across a number of industries, such as fashion and housing. We wanted to optimise this movement within the hairdressing world and bring a new era of collaboration to the industry.
“We have been piloting this scheme for the last six months. So far, we have seen gaps in business knowledge, out-dated communication tactics and customer service skills that need redefining for today’s clients, as well as missed financial opportunities. Improving standards across the industry benefits everyone. With M.A.D, we are tapping into a wealth of knowledge and expertise that supports the many and not just the few, giving back to each other in a way that has not been done before,” – Janene.
Mentorship
M.A.D embodies a unique approach to skill and knowledge acquisition, offering Salon Owners the opportunity to grow their business without the hefty price tag of traditional education. At M.A.D, the focus is on Mentorship, allowing Salon Owners to Absorb and Digest skills and insights essential for their business development. With a plethora of topics and skills covered, there’s something for everyone.
Supporting Every Salon
“There are so many education platforms out there, but we believe M.A.D is a first of its kind. It is not about making money; this is about supporting every salon of every size to ensure there is affordable training for all and taking away any form of the elitism.
“By the end of 2024 we would love to see a network of 100 salons on the map, engaging and learning. We want the salons to be beneficiaries of the programme and the platform to facilitate brilliant swaps of knowledge, learning and skills. We hope it’ll be a framework that will grow to mean education is accessible and beneficial to all in very real ways,”- Mikaela.
