JIM SHAW: HOW TO MAKE YOUR MALE GROOMING SALON STAND OUT

JIM SHAW: HOW TO MAKE YOUR MALE GROOMING SALON STAND OUT
Sam Robinson

Male grooming salons and hair salons with men’s hairdressing and grooming areas are becoming more and more popular and with that in mind, it’s getting harder to stand out from the crowd. We talk to multi-award winning men’s hairdressing, Jim Shaw, who owns TONI&GUY Billericay, an award winning male grooming salon that recently won Runner Up in the Salon Business Awards Male Grooming Salon category about what it takes to become a stand out male grooming salon…

Bespoke Area

Having a bespoke area for men’s hair – to be seen as a male grooming salon or a salon that specialising in men’s grooming, you need to have an area in your salon that aligns with this. At TONI&GUY Billericay we have a main salon area and then have a shut off area at the back of our salon for our male clients, which looks and feels totally different to the rest of the salon. In the space you have it’s important to have furniture that showcases it’s a male grooming area and you can do this by adding different furniture such as barber chairs specifically for your male clientele and male grooming stations instead of regular styling stations. This allows your male clients to feel like they are in a very masculine space and a space tailored for them.

Best Services

Offering the very best in services and treatments for your male clients – to stand out from your competitors its key that you offer something different and unique to your clients. Of course you must try to cater to all of your male clients and offer the regular services and hair treatments they would get at a barbers/other men’s grooming salon but also add unique services and extra treatments that may not be available elsewhere. At TONI&GUY Billericay we offer all of the regular male grooming treatments, cuts, shaves, beard trims and nose trims but we also go beyond this and offer our male clientele manicures, pedicures and facials. We also offer bespoke tailor made packages such as ‘Groom the Groom’ where a groom can come into the salon on their wedding day for a full pampering package of hair and beauty treatments to get them ready for their big day.

Being Experts

Showcasing yourself and your team as the experts in all things men’s hair – to stand out as a top men’s grooming salon it’s good to have evidence behind this. If you’ve won many awards due to your men’s hairdressing work and for being a fantastic male grooming salon business this will not only attract loyal clients and new clients and show to them you are the experts in your field but it will also show to industry publications, professionals and salons.

Extra Touches

Offering extra touches in the salon to further create an amazing male grooming experience for your male clients – The extra touches you provide in the salon really do make a difference in making your salon stand out from the crowd. These extra touches heighten the experience for your clients and show that you truly care about providing the best male grooming service and experience possible. At TONI&GUY Billericay some of the added touches we have in the salon for our clients are an aftershave station, where our male clients can spritz themselves with aftershave before leaving the salon, as well as shoe polishing, which they can have done during their appointment and is great to get male clients ready before any big nights out or special events/occasions.
