It’s a wrap

It’s a wrap

To wrap up British Beauty Week, the UK Treasury welcomed some of the biggest names and brightest minds in beauty to No.11 Downing Street. The special event, hosted in collaboration with the British Beauty Council, brought together leading salon owners, innovators, entrepreneurs, and brands to celebrate the incredible impact of the UK beauty industry.

The evening was all about showcasing beauty’s strength — from its economic contribution to its creativity, community spirit, and future potential.

Before the reception, Millie Kendall OBE, CEO of the British Beauty Council, and Laurence Newman, Founder and CEO of The Beauty Tech Group (TBTG), met with James Murray MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, to discuss the future of the beauty business. The conversation centred around the rise of beauty tech and innovation — key drivers of growth across salons and brands alike.

TBTG made headlines as the first beauty business to complete an IPO on the London Stock Exchange, proving just how influential the UK’s beauty sector has become on a global stage.

Beauty: The Beating Heart of British High Streets

The British Beauty Council continues to champion the vital role beauty plays in the UK economy. Hair, health, and beauty salons have consistently made up the largest number of retail businesses on UK high streets for over a decade — and the industry is growing four times faster than the wider economy.

That means the beauty industry isn’t just about looking good — it’s about doing good: creating jobs, supporting communities, and driving growth nationwide.

At the Treasury reception, James Murray MP met with a cross-section of the industry — from hairdressers and creatives to retail leaders and manufacturers. Guests shared both the success stories and the challenges shaping business in beauty today.

A British Success Story

Backing the sector, Chancellor of the Exchequer, The Rt. Hon Rachel Reeves, called the beauty industry “a British success story.” She said:

“From high street salons at the heart of our communities to pioneering businesses like The Beauty Tech Group, the beauty industry is driving growth, creating good jobs and raising living standards across the country.

We’re backing the entrepreneurs, small businesses and innovators that make our beauty industry world-leading — because when they thrive, so does our economy.”

Millie Kendall OBE added:

“It’s fantastic to see the Chancellor recognise the breadth and brilliance of our industry as we close British Beauty Week. The UK beauty sector is resilient, entrepreneurial, and diverse — with most businesses being women-owned SMEs.

We’re proud of the incredible success stories across our sector and will continue working closely with the government to address the challenges facing hair and beauty businesses today.”

The Future Is Bright for British Beauty

From independent salon owners to global innovators, the message from British Beauty Week was clear: the UK beauty industry is stronger than ever. With a growing economic footprint, a spirit of innovation, and powerful advocacy from the British Beauty Council, the sector’s future looks every bit as bright as the creativity that defines it.
