Great Lengths are proud to announce that they have partnered with Green Salon Collective, allowing salons and extensionists to provide a fully sustainable and transparent service from start to finish.

Recycling Everything

All Great Lengths hair extensions can now be recycled through the Green Salon Collective – just like natural hair clippings. Great Lengths have long partnered with The Little Princess Trust to recycle longer hair extensions for use in children’s wigs, and this new partnership provides a perfect solution for recycling shorter extensions which are unsuitable for donation.

Collaborations

“Great Lengths is proud to partner with Green Salon Collective as part of our ongoing efforts to be the most sustainable hair extensions brand possible,” says Joscelin McCourt, CEO for Great Lengths UK and Ireland. “In addition to our salon partnership donating used hair extensions to the Little Princess Trust to create wigs for children with medical hair loss, the Green Salon Collective’s recycling scheme now creates the opportunity to safely and sustainably dispose of hair clippings which are unsuitable for use in wigs. It’s a fantastic step in our path to reducing waste and supporting an overall move to a green, more sustainable hairdressing industry.”

Recycle the Unrecyclable

Green Salon Collective is proud to ‘recycle the unrecyclable’, transforming waste from the hairdressing industry to create a more circular economy for salons. Donated hair is used in numerous innovative ways, including to make hair booms and hair mats; hair cuttings of any length and colour, tightly packed into cotton or nylon tubes. When placed in either water or on the shores of beaches, these booms will stop oil from spreading, saving wildlife and the natural landscape. Hair mats are used in a similar way to booms and can be used to soak up oil or water. Hair clippings are also used for composting; as a protein, hair breaks down easily when composted, releasing nitrogen to feed and enrich plants.

Fully Circular

Great Lengths hair extensions are proud to now be able to offer a fully circular, transparent chain with their hair. Ethical sourcing of hair is fundamental to the Great Lengths philosophy, and the brand only sources hair from voluntary donations deriving from religious practices. Great Lengths selects the very best human hair from Hindu Temples, which is donated willingly to the temple as an act of devotion. Revenue generated by the sale of Temple Hair is used in the local community for social benefit, and every strand has been donated willingly and with full consent. Each person that chooses to donate their hair is further treated with respect and care.

By offering two solutions for recycling Great Lengths extensions, the brand is now able to guarantee an ethical and sustainable journey for hair from start to finish.
