Andrew Barton & Olga Thompson launch SPLIT ENDS Podcast
- Sam Robinson
- On May 16, 2024
A ‘cutting-edge’ new Podcast and YouTube shorts format hosted by celebrity Hairdresser Andrew Barton and Actor, Writer, Comedian Olga Thompson.
HAIRATAGE
With their shared hairdressing heritage, shared Greek Cypriot heritage and shared story of being Survivors of bullying and Ambassadors for Kidscape Andrew and Olga became firm friends. United by their own ‘hair-stories’ and ‘hairatage, from it ‘Split Ends’ emerged as a format that combines joy, wellbeing and storytelling. It’s great fun to see Andrew snipping and chatting away to his guest in the salon chair alongside his warm, funny bestie Olga.
THE TREATMENT
Each episode interviews a different fascinating Celeb each week about their life through the prism of their hair. Think bad hair days, killer cuts, and a unique, surprisingly deep, warm and funny perspective on their ‘hairatage’, style, and life, all whilst giving them a new do in the salon.
Whilst Barnsley- born Andrew admits he’s by no means the next Parkie, he thinks the salon chair brings out split-life stories as well as chopping off the split ends:
KNOW IT ALL
“Behind my chair, I hear it all! I often know more about my Clients than their Gynaecologist, Therapist, or even their best friend. Menopause, work strife, divorce, stress and anxiety and mental health issues, and then there’s the first snog on a date and fun stuff too! The conversations always flow in the salon chair, and it’s great to see them leaving heard, with a fresh perspective, and of course, sporting a new do! I love my job and love being there for my Clients too,”- Andrew (@andrew_barton_hair).
LIFE-CHANGING STORIES
Olga Thompson (@BigFatGreekMother) is grateful for her memories of the salon, which helped ‘bring her back to life’ following a breakdown. The larger- than-life characters in all their glory and vulnerability who brought their stories to the salon chair and live on beyond with real affection in her comedy shows at large:
“As a little girl, I observed men and women from all walks of life come in and bare their precious souls to my mother in that hairdressing chair. In addition to styling hair, I saw her love, counsel, and feed so many. Most affectionately, I remember Chinese Margaret from Bethnal Green who always brought her parrot with her in a cage. A real mix of care and clutter. Popping in for a new do, and making themselves at home amidst all the perms, George Michael posters and parrots!”- Olga.
HIGHLIGHTS
Adding further highlights, Olga introduces some hilarious cameos to each conversation like outrageous Trainee Hairdresser Androulla. That’s just one of her larger-than-life salon characters she met whilst growing up at El Greco.
AFTERCARE
We’re talking bad hair days. Best and worst haircuts ever. And we’re having a great time taking care of ourselves too! Split Ends is a truly interactive, fresh take on wellbeing and joy from the comfort of the salon. The time-old safe space to share and leave feeling ‘more you’.
