LINTON & MAC LAUNCHES IN-SALON ‘FUTURE TALENT’
Linton & Mac, the multi award-winning hair salon in Aberdeen, Scotland, has created its ‘Future Talent’ programme to ensure all salon juniors receive the support and training that they need to succeed in the hairdressing industry.
About The Initiative
The in-salon initiative has been designed to ensure that each salon Junior is welcomed to the team and involved in salon life from day one in the salon. Juniors are initially matched to their ‘buddy’ – a trained stylist – for three months, where they shadow them to watch and learn everything that they do. Once the assistant is ready, they are given their own column on a Saturday where they can offer ‘Future Talent Blow-Dries’ and ‘Future Talent Style Bar’ appointments to paying customers. The salon has also recently launched its ‘Breakfast Blow Dries’, also headed up by Future Talent team.
A Real Feel For Industry Life
The juniors are kept engaged and motivated every day and are included as much as everyone else in the salon. They attend any training days held in the salon and are involved in any external shoots and shows – such as working backstage on the Grays’ School of Art Graduate Fashion Show. This gives the youngsters a real feel for industry life and how their role as a stylist can welcome a wealth of additional opportunities outside of the salon.
Encouraged To Succeed
Throughout the training and development programme, juniors are encouraged to succeed, while ensuring they fulfil everyday tasks in the salon. They are seen as an essential investment, and important to the evolution of the business.
The Showcase
The ‘Future Talent’ team recently held a Future Talent show on April 23 to showcase what they have learned so far. Every element of the show was organised by the youngsters and gave them the opportunity to work together as a team and show the rest of the salon how far they have come and the skill-sets they possess.
The Aim
Jenn Linton and Joanna Macdonald, Co-Directors, Linton & Mac said: “From the moment we opened the doors to Linton & Mac, we were dedicated to finding great assistants, and this has always been a priority as they are the next generation of the industry. “Our aim is to keep them driven and passionate, and excited and motivated about the salon and all that the industry has to offer.”
