Summer 2024 Hair Trends

Summer 2024 Hair Trends
Sam Robinson

Tina Mehmi, Colour Educator & Colour Workshop Member at RUSH shares summer 2024’s hottest trends.

Buttercream Blonde
Blondes will always be a reoccurring summer hair trend, and for summer 2024 we move away from the the platinum and barbie blonde shades of last summer.  Moving towards more creamy, soft blondes with a mix of both warm and cool tones to create mega dimension and depth and to give hair a gorgeous lustre such as buttercream blonde. This is still a light, bright blonde, however, with the combination of some warmer tones ribboned through the hair, it avoids the colour looking to harsh and ‘block’ like, and instead, gives hair a more natural, sun-kissed and reflective finish that’s perfect during the summer season.

All Things Red
Red is having a moment this summer and we will see a flux of red tones becoming popular, from super soft, pastel like apricot hues to cinnamon coppers and fiery reds too. For those with curly hair, red is a stunning shade to experiment with, where Clients can visit the salon for a semi-permanent or glossing to enhance their hair texture and add extreme shine to it. Apricot is a beautiful subtle hue for blondes who want to dip their toe in the copper trend, which will give hair a fun, fresh and on trend finish for the season but will blend out easily. The great thing about copper is that for Clients who do not want to wear this all over, it looks great painted onto hair via balayage or highlights to brighten their base and add dimension and a glow to their hair.

Peekaboo Hair
Peekaboo hair has become more popular over recent years, and this will continue for summer 2024! For those looking to be more creative with their hair and add a pop of dramatic colour, a pastel or vivid hair shade can be added into the hair in a blocked section to create a peekaboo/two-tone effect. This can be worn bold towards the front of the face via face framing, incorporated into a fringe, or the block of colour can be created under the back section of the clients hair or on their hair ends depending on their desired look.

90’s Cuts
The 90’s have made a big comeback and for summer we will see this trend becoming more prominent. Short, cool haircuts including super short mullets, pixie cuts, bowl cuts and rounded jaw-length bobs will be making a statement this season and we will see these worn more polished and sleeker to really show off the roundness and shape of the cut. We will also see a request for cuts like the Bixie, which combines the bob and pixie and features shorter hair on the top and longer hair at the bottom for a chicer take on the mullet.

XL Length
From one extreme to the other, alongside super short 90s cuts, we will also see extra-long hair making a comeback this summer 2024. For Clients that don’t have naturally long locks, hair extensions will start to gain popularity again and are a great way to add length and thickness and give Clients hair an update for the season. A key styling trend this year will be luxe, expensive looking hair, which almost replicates materials like satin and velvet. On longer lengths like this, using professional styling products such as serums and oils will be essential like the KMS Moist Repair Hydrating Oil to give hair a polished and perfected finish.
