Meet L’Oreal Colour Trophy Winners Scullion & Scot!

Meet L’Oreal Colour Trophy Winners Scullion & Scot!
Sam Robinson

Scullion & Scot is an exciting young salon, born out of lockdown and launched in Sheffield. Having just celebrated their second birthday, the salon entered their first competition the hugely prestigious L’Oréal colour trophy and the hairdressing industry’s longest running colour competition, judged by the UK’s most experienced hair talent and in front of 1900 people at London’s Battersea Evolution, they won!

Specialising in colour and extensions, vegan friendly and LGBTQ+ inclusive, co-founders Gemma and Jade set their sights on growing a team of talented artists, whilst promoting their core focus of sustainability and inclusivity. Both Gemma and Jade found their passion for hairdressing at a young age, and in lockdown the two took the opportunity to evaluate their careers, concluding that their goal was creating a space where artists could challenge themselves and bounce ideas off each other.

Scullion & Scot offer a variety of services, including cutting/styling, expert colouring, hair loss consultancy and a more private section for guests who require it. Providing an excellent guest experience is also at the core of the salon, by creating complementary colour cocktails to suit guests skin tone and lifestyles, paired with styling so they look and feel great in their day-to-day life. It’s the teams absolute passion for colour that propelled them to victory in the 67th annual L’Oréal Colour Trophy UK Grand Final, hosted by Presenter and Documentary Maker Zara McDermott.

Winning Look
Jessica Elwell and Lewis Inkles, the two Stylists who produced the winning look, discussed the idea behind the concept; after digitalisation and a world where screens are taking focus we wanted to create an image to showcase exactly this. We worked on creating a futuristic shape accompanied with an illuminating colour palette. After playing with different concepts, Jess and Lewis decided that panel colouring was the direction they would move forward with.

Jess and Lewis explained that panel colouring can be used in various ways to make the hair really come alive and create a three-dimensional appearance. We were able to bring out areas of the hair that usually wouldn’t be noticed but instead were the main focus.

The winning look involved sectioning a halo panel around the perimeter of the models head in an urban deep green, which was met with a fine sheet of vivid yellow, directly layered over the top.
The ultimate look brought the teams cyber punk concept to reality. The team is now looking forward to exploring new concepts and ways they can take their guest experiences to the next level. After such a strong start, Gemma and Jade can’t wait to see what the future holds for Scullion & Scot!
