Gigi Hadid’s Espresso Martini Brunette
Seung Ki Baek, Creative Colour Expert at Rush Hair shares his thoughts on the transition to the Dark Side.
The beginning of 2026 is a great time to encourage clients to embrace change – whether it’s taking an extra inch when cutting or a complete colour transformation – small changes can completely transform their look!
Last weekend, Gigi Hadid swapped her signature blonde locks for a vampy, dark brunette midi bob. Resembling her younger sister, Bella, the supermodel debuted her new look for an upcoming campaign in which she has transitioned to the dark side, sporting a shade which has been coined ‘Espresso Martini Brunette’. This multi-dimensional hue has cool undertones with absolutely no warmth whatsoever – seems like the perfect shade for winter! ‘Espresso Martini Brunette’ is deep, dark brunette with ribbons of black blended throughout, being loved for its rich, glossy appearance that gives the hair a truly mesmerising shine! If your client has green or blue eyes like Gigi, then this shade will make their eyes pop! ‘Espresso Martini Brunette’ is on this season’s colour trend radar as it is completely customisable to your client’s preference – I think this shade would look incredible with delicate ribbons of blonde blended throughout for a 90s inspired look.
Gigi’s hair was styled in a midi bob with runway ready ‘flippy’ ends. As the name suggests, the midi bob falls somewhere mid-length between the shoulder and jawline. Gigi is often described as having a round face shape, making the midi bob perfect for elongating her face and accentuating her more prominent features – those gorgeous bright blue eyes! For clients who are unsure about getting the chop, this haircut is a great way to dip their toe into experimenting with shorter styles without losing too much length.
When it comes to styling, I’d recommend using a medium-sized round brush to style the ends of the hair outwards. With how short the lengths of the hair are, the over-exaggerated flippy ends look compliment this cut beautifully. To achieve the same ‘wet’ look like Gigi, I’d recommend using a light spritz of texture spray to boost volume and style the hair, following up with a light-hold gel throughout the lengths for added movement. The ‘midi bob’ is timeless cut that appeals to clients who want to feel chic without being overly styled.
