Electric Sessions X DJ Muldoon and Joan Novak
Hair Stylist, Founder and Creative Director of Electric London, Mark Woolley recently held his notorious Electric Sessions, with international guest artists DJ Muldoon and Joan Novak.
Guest Focus
The Electric Sessions continued its guest artist focus with two big names in the global hairdressing
industry, award winning USA based educator, DJ Muldoon and award-winning Canadian colourist, Joan Novak, presenting an up close and personal educational and creative techniques evening to an
enthused audience of team members, Electric Professional Product salon stockists, Influencers and
local Brighton salons stylists.
About The Sessions
The Electric Sessions are about keeping stylists up to date with trends and innovative ways to use
Electric Professional products; they take place regularly at the Electric Studio in Brighton and on the
road across the USA and Canada.
DJ Muldoon
Mark introduced the night and welcomed the duo into the #ElectricFamily; DJ Muldoon is US
hairdresser originally from Sheffield, who has a passion for training and teaching. His inspiration for his work is making everyday fundamentals easier and simpler. DJ is an Electric Professional Products salon stockist in his education academy in LA.
Joan Novak
Joan Novak is a Canadian Session Colourist and Educator, who has worked with many Hollywood
actresses, musicians and backstage at New York Fashion Week. She is also the Canadian Colourist of the Year, and stocks Electric Professional Products in her Vancouver salon.
The Looks
The duo presented the first of their two looks, all prepped and styled using the Electric Professional
products. DJ presented a disconnected bob which sat at the jawline, removing density and bulk in the back section, whilst layering the top section over it. Creating discontinuation at the ear sections to balance the haircut. Joan wanted this look to have a solid feel with a very subtle mid length brighter reflection quality that at first glance isn’t noticed but is something that makes the cool platinum hair sing with a hint of warmth, contrasting with the cooler root and ends. The duo envisioned for the colour of a more of a solid look, with a Ying & Yang feel to the two models’ colours and with a cool mod Electric British vibe to it!
Mark’s Look
Mark Woolley and Sean Dawson from the Electric Art Team also took to the stage. Mark presented a
70s style mullet with a subtle perimeter shape and he used a point cutting technique to the central
sections. With a heavier fringe a broken weight line against the length to make it Electric. Adding in hair wefts for length and editorial finish, the hair was prepped and finished with Electric °C-1 English Rose Serum to build up shine and to add texture to the look he used the NEW °C-8 Invisible Volume Chalk.
Sean’s Look
Sean showcased a more commercial take on a 70s style drawing inspiration from Debbie Harry, he
created an asymmetric interior hair cut with a side parting and overdirected square layers. Using the
NEW °C-6 Cloudburst to style the hair with great hold without the tacky feel, to twist chunky sections
and diffuse dry on a low heat to help add shine and flatten the cuticle. Using the NEW °C-8 Invisible
Volume Chalk to finish the look.
The Final Looks
DJ and Joan returned to the stage to show their final look, for DJ’s final look he presented a strong sharp cut with choppy short layers through the top sections and a micro fringe. Joan kept the feature piece on the models fringe rich and deep with subtle details that at first glance you don’t see, but the more you look those details reveal themselves.
The Finale
The night ended with a finale of the models on stage with the Electric Art Team alongside DJ and Joan, which gave the audience an exciting opportunity to capture the looks and get a close-up on the
techniques used to create the looks. Of the night, Mark Woolley said “What a night! It was great to welcome DJ Muldoon back and Joan into the #ElectricFamily and share their skills and passion for the craft. The night was the ideal showcase of cool mod with a great British vibe and really showcasing the new Electric Professional products coming to salons soon.”
