Pulp Riot: Tips to be creative for Pride Month
‘Tis the season for rainbow hair! Whether it’s bright vivid colours or more muted, subtle shades, it’s the perfect time to get creative. “Brights are always popular with celebrities such as Billie Eilish and Katy Perry who show that they can be styled in a wearable way,” says Pulp Riot Artist Katie Geddes
“There are a lot of myths surrounding bright colours such as it won’t last more than a couple of shampoos, but my clients can easily get anything from 6-12 weeks out of it or even longer!”
So if you or your clients want to be bright for Pride Month, Katie offers these top tips for getting the rainbow look
1 Always use ice cold water for rinsing. This keeps the colour fresh and vibrant, although with Pulp Riot you don’t need to worry about colours transferring.
2 Utilise your colour wheel, especially if you want to create smokier or muted tones.
3 Even on a level 7/8 some colours look super pretty! Fireball (bright red) from Pulp Riot looks beautiful on a level 7.
4 Bond builders are key for longevity and an extra boosted treatment.
5 Low heat and minimal washing is key. Aftercare is so important for your clients, ideally shampooing in cold water only once or twice a week with a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner keeps the colour looking fresher for longer!
6 Hair doesn’t need to be the perfect blonde – for some pastels and silvers/blues it needs to be, but if you don’t get a perfect lift you can still achieve some gorgeous colours!
