Squid Games inspired hair cut by Paul Watts
With Netflix a huge part of many peoples lives (let’s be honest, we all love a good series) the recent unveiling of it’s latest release, Squid Games, has everyone talking … and in the hair world, it’s no different – except it’s all about the hair!
Short Wolf Cut
The trend which is emerging from the Squid Games is the Short Wolf Cut, a modern day version and twist on the classic shag look, and one we are seeing more and more in the salons. Full of texture and volume, it’s a statement look and one for those looking to embrace their own creativity and try something new.
How to Create
Front section
1. Part the hair directly in the middle, giving an even section on either side.
2. Next, find your high point, and once located take a line down to the back of the hair and section the front from the back, repeating on the other side.
3. Section off your back section to keep this away from your two front sections.
4. Working to the front, take a very small section at the front of the middle parting, rest your finger on the bridge of the nose and cut. This will be your guide. Section this out the way.
5. Taking the right hand section, bring a medium sized section forward, pulling it straight out from the head and cut to your guide – cut a straight blunt link – repeat throughout this whole section. When it comes to the side sections, bring it forward and then twist so this comes straight out from the head and cut. You will begin to see the shape forming.
6. Repeat this step on the section to the left. To add more length you can elevate the cut however for a shorter look, continue to pull the hair forward in a straight line.
Back Section
1. Take a small section from the high section and comb back into the back section. Then part the hair in the middle and section off to the left and right.
2. Using the section you brought in from the front as a guide, elevate your first section, straight up and cut. Repeat down the middle section.
3. Once complete, take the whole of the back section and elevate straight up and cut to the guide.
4. Repeat the above on the rest of the back sections.
5. Once cut, comb through and run your fingers through, evaluating the cut and the texture. The hair can be cut to the desired length, however for this trend taking the length to the bottom of the neck is best.
Whilst damp and before styling, use JOICO JOIFULL Volumizing Styler, distributing evenly throughout the hair. When blow drying, focus the heat firstly at the roots, to encourage height and then rough blow dry the rest of the hair – it’s key to keeping the texture within this look.
