Here’s how salons are following the new hygiene and social distancing advice
Sam Robinson

Following yesterday’s press conference with the PM regarding the Covid-19 situation, spas, wellness centres and massage parlours were added to the list of closures. As of yet, no specific details have been released regarding salons, beauty salons, and barber shops. We expect to hear more on Monday. Until then, its the decision of salon owners’ as to whether they close their salons, or remain open whilst adhering to the government’s recommended social guidelines.

Here is how two salons are following the new hygiene and social distancing advice.

“Our columns look a bit like a game of Tetris at present. Naturally some clients are cancelling but others are keen to fill the slots, bringing their appointments forward in case they are unable to get in at a later date.

“We are doing everything we can to accommodate everyone who wants an appointment, while ensuring our clients remain safe in the salon. We are really taking each day as it comes, with daily updates for our clients posted on our salon’s Facebook page.

“Many clients have been incredibly supportive during this uncertain time. We have had customers offer to pay for appointments even if they aren’t attending. We aren’t taking people up on the offer of course, but we are grateful and humbled by the kindness shown by our community.

“We have also seen clients keen to stock up on their hair care products so retail has done quite well. For many of our clients, their shampoo and conditioner is a priority and they don’t want to go without if they can’t visit us! We would never take advantage of the situation but actions like this have certainly helped to keep the business going at this difficult time.”

“We pride ourselves on client care always being our top priority and we have put certain precautions and plans in place so clients can be as certain as we are that we’re doing everything they’ve come to expect from us. Our exceptionally high hygiene and cleanliness standards continue, it’s always been a priority for the salons but we realise it’s never been more important than now.

Hand sanitiser is available on every station for clients and team to utilise before, during and after all appointments (and they are being well used!)
We’ve spaced all our work stations out so each appointment can take place at safe distances from each other.

We are minimising contact by the ensuring the stylist takes care of every part of the appointment, from greeting, helping with the gown, washing the clients hair, mixing and applying colour. There is no passing jobs to other team members”.
