Wella Professionals announces winners for the UK & Ireland TrendVision Award 2021.
The TrendVision Award UK & Ireland 2021 winners have been announced at the live Grand Final event, which took place at London’s iconic Roundhouse. More than 700 guests joined the event live with equal number joining digitally on the evening, to celebrate the many talents who made it to the final stage of this incredible competition and crown the worthy winners of 2021.
This was truly a night to remember, with an electric atmosphere that saw the hairdressing industry greats together in one room after what has been an incredibly challenging time for most. For the finalists, the journey started in March 2021 with a photographic entry. More than 600 entries were filtered down to 90 artists who made it through to the grand final.
The night was hosted by broadcaster and style icon, Fearne Cotton, who was joined by Wella’s legendry artist, Patrick Cameron. Guests started the night with an exciting drinks reception, followed by a 3-course meal, incredible live hair shows and the awards ceremony.
To accommodate those that couldn’t make the live event itself, for the first time ever the TrendVision Award was live streamed, which was hosted by radio presenter Elspeth Pierce who delivered a truly engaging experience for those not in the actual Roundhouse on the night. Those that were there till the early hours enjoyed an after-party and DJ Philly who truly got the celebrations in full swing.
The event wasn’t just about the winners. It was an opportunity to see four incredible exclusive hair shows from hairdressing industry legends. Whilst each show was completely unique, there was one overriding thread throughout all shows: Sustainability. A subject which mirrored Wella’s key commitment and vision perfectly. “All have the shows tonight have a sustainability message at heart, which is paramount to Wella,” said Fearne.
Robert Eaton’s show entitled ‘Dark into the Light’ delivered a contemporary editorial catwalk show, inspired by light, with a strong sustainability and environmental message. D&J Ambrose named their show ‘The Lost City – Orient V Occident’. Guests were treated to a mesmerising fusion of colour and texture, combining a nod to grunge with pure, premium colour tones, and couture fashion-slaves sporting intense hair colour created using shades form the Koleston Perfect range of permanent hair colour. HOB Academy presented ‘Lunascape’ – a collection of bespoke looks, encapsulating street and catwalk trends, featuring an array of classic and advanced cut & colours. Finally, the ghd show did not disappoint. Its ‘Jungle’ collection by James Earnshaw and the ghd team unleashed a powerful, raw mix of volume, movement and texture, with exaggerated shapes at their finest.
Ensuring that TrendVision Award went ahead as a live event this year, despite the challenges, has been a major priority for Wella Professionals, and the end result did not disappoint! “We desperately wanted to bring the industry back together for this amazing event, and the commitment of everyone involved has been remarkable. This has been a special night like no other. The standard across all categories has been incredibly high and every finalist should be proud of what they have achieved. Many congratulations to all the winners,” said Allie Hargreaves, Wella’s National Education Operations and Events Manager UK & Ireland.
Now, 22 winners from eight hairdressing categories have been crowned, which are: Colour Artist (sponsored by Koleston Perfect), Colour Specialist (sponsored by Illumina Color), Craft Artist (sponsored by Color Touch), new for 2021 Natural Texture Artist (sponsored by Sebastian Professional), Style Master (sponsored by ghd), and Editorial Look (sponsored by Sebastian Professional). For the first time, Wella’s student competition, XPOSURE (sponsored by EIMI), was integrated into TrendVision Award, with XPOSURE Colour the Cut and XPOSURE Creative Colour categories, both of which would not have been possible without the enthusiasm and support from colleges from across the UK & Ireland. In addition, this year the competition also recognised the OPI Nail Artist of the Year which celebrates OPI’s leading nail artist in the UK.
The grand final itself did have some adjustments from previous years in order to be fully compliant to current restrictions, such as some categories being judged remotely on Zoom prior to the big day.
