The Wella Professionals TrendVision Award UK & Ireland Final 2015 inspired an audience of over 800 guests at the legendary Camden Roundhouse, on Monday 5 October. From hundreds of initial entries, 47 finalists and their models took to stage for their chance to be crowned the prestigious Gold winner.

A fantastic line-up of esteemed judges chose Craig Clark and Shabaz Hussain to represent the UK and Leandro Santana Santos and Ericka Kidd to represent Ireland at the Wella Professionals International TrendVision Award in Berlin. The gold winners are now taking part in four inspirational days of mentoring as they prepare for the International Final.

Find out what they’ve been doing with a series of TrendVision Award blogs from both the winners and the mentors…

Akin Konizi, co-director and creative force behind the award winning HOB Salons group, opened the first day of mentoring with the 2015 UK & Ireland TrendVision Award Gold Winners. With over 30 years of experience, Akin was able to share his techniques and philosophies with the winners and encourage them to be confident in themselves and their work.

“To ensure that I could provide the best advice to the winners, I wanted to gain an insight into their careers so far and how they wanted these to evolve in the future. I felt it was important that they focused on how they could become a leader and set their own path. I told them about my own career, emphasising the times that I didn’t succeed and the important things you learn from coming second. You must try different things and that means sometimes you fail – that’s the best way to learn.

“I wanted to make sure that I provided the winners with lots of direction on how to develop themselves, both creatively and professionally. It was important to me to point them in a positive & exciting direction. I also felt that it was paramount that they have confidence in themselves, their creativity, their skills and their own knowledge. They have to understand the objective and evolve their craft. Whether they’re in the salon or on the stage at the International TrendVision Award, the focus is to make the model look amazing!

IMG_0124“The key message that I wanted to get across to the winners was to make everything they do beautiful, drawing out and emphasising their model’s natural beauty. It is important to not only be confident, but to be uniquely creative and honest to your craft! Believe it, want it, practice and get it!”
