The iconic Royal Liver Building on the waterfront in Liverpool was the setting for the second Alan Howard JOICO Select Account Conference.
About The Day
The day-‐long conference hosted by John Hustcroft was entitled Evolution and the 140 select account attendees experienced the wisdom of a host of inspirational people who relayed their stories of how they have evolved in this industry. In his introduction, John posed questions to the audience as to how they have evolved and why we have a need to evolve and how attendees could integrate into their business what they would hear today. John then introduced Jonathan Littler, MD of Alan Howard who welcomed everyone to the Conference and spoke about managing change and working towards achieving your vision.
Looking Back
The next speaker was Vicky Brown, European Business Development Manager for JOICO who looked back at 2018, starting with the Global Destination Education Symposium in Punta Cana, and featuring the companies launches throughout 2018. Vicky spoke of the evolution of the Alan Howard JOICO Select Accounts and how they had grown in numbers by over 33% in a year, before giving a few teasers as to what exciting things JOICO have planned for 2019.
Challenges For Salons
Alan Howard Select Account Manager, Laura Ackers was next on stage and she encouraged attendees to step out of their comfort zone. Laura highlighted some of the challenge’s salons are facing today and showcased how some of the JOICO Select Accounts had faced and overcome these challenges. Laura’s counterpart, Select Account Manager Darren Watkins came on to the stage after the break. In a very relevant presentation, Darren spoke about Millennials in our business and how to attract and manage them in a way they relate to. Before lunch John introduced experienced educator, Gianni Scumaci, who has worked with many of the select accounts to develop their cutting skills. Gianni spoke about his workshops and education with Alan Howard and about the social function of a hairdresser and how he is constantly evolving what he does.
The Power of Social
After lunch, John welcomed to the stage Juri Coenraad, PR and Communications Manager for JOICO who presented JOICO’s approach to marketing and communication and how that has evolved over the years. Social media was a key topic in Juri’s presentation how they use different channels to communicate with different demographics. Balayage expert, Jack Howard was next on stage who presented his journey and what it had involved to a captivated audience. From Lincoln to London to New York and back to London, Jack spoke about the evolvement of his career and how he used education and knowledge to develop his skills and build his profile as the King of Balayage!
Education & Training Plans
With Jack setting the scene for education, Alan Howard Educator, Lorraine Matic took to the stage and spoke about plans for education and training in 2019, including the launch of the Insight Salon Ambassadors programme and the JOICO Color Genius Programme. Lorraine then introduced educators and experts in their fields, Luca Jones and Katy Grimshaw who presented some of the courses they are offering to the JOICO Select accounts. Now was the moment that may of the attendees had been waiting for. Sales Director, Steve Heaton was welcomed to the stage and he announced each awards category.

The End To The Night
After a glass of bubbly to celebrate, everyone left feeling motivated and inspired. The Select Accounts were then off to get ready to attend a celebratory dinner at one of Liverpool’s finest restaurants – The Florist. Known as the most instagramable restaurant in the UK, it set the scene for a night of celebrations by all who attended.
