Shaping Futures Star Interviewed By The BBC

Shaping Futures Star Interviewed By The BBC
Sam Robinson

Annabelle, who works at Edward & Co in Brighouse, has been chosen by global haircare brand, Schwarzkopf Professional to join their charity initiative, Shaping Futures. She will join five other UK hairdressers as they travel to the Philippines in August as part of the Shaping Futures team, headed by UK Shaping Futures Ambassador, Janet Maitland.

The Itinerary

While there, the volunteers will deliver training for up to 25 young people and adults who are currently living in an SOS Children’s Village. They will be taught how to cut, colour and style hair, after which they will be offered further training or employment opportunities with local salons.

BBC Leeds

Annabelle was recently invited on to BBC Leeds to talk about her upcoming adventure, which she describes as, “the best achievement of my career so far.”
“I’ve only been part of this industry for six years,” she says. “So it’s quite amazing that I’ve been given this opportunity. Not only will I be able to take my knowledge and experience to them, but hopefully I can bring something back as I learn from these amazing people and their culture!”

“I am constantly inspired by the hairdressing industry and what my peers achieve, and I love to learn as much as I can every day. I love more than anything to be as creative as possible within the salon and give clients the best experience possible. I really want to share my enthusiasm and passion for hairdressing with the young people I meet in the Philippines, and I cannot wait to see what ideas they have too. I am still completely in awe to be part of such an amazing project and can’t wait to begin shaping some futures.”

Philippines Trip

Shaping Futures has been running since 2009, and this is the first year the UK team will be visiting the Philippines, following many successful years partnering with SOS Children’s Villages in India. Every young person who takes part in Shaping Futures has experienced trauma and poverty; but thanks to this initiative they are given the skills to build a new, safe life for themselves.

Edward & CO

Annabelle works for Edward & Co. based in Brighouse; a salon that prides itself on achieving the best possible standard for their clients. They constantly strive to keep up to date with latest colours, trends to ensure quality throughout everything they do. She started there as a junior and over the past six years has been given many opportunities such as photoshoots, stage work and various competitions, meaning she has developed her skills to become one of the salon’s top stylists. Each volunteer has been asked to fundraise £1500 for the SOS Children’s Villages charity and the additional money needed to cover their expenses.

Annabelle has set up a fundraising page, and if you fancy helping with her endeavours, visit her Just Giving Page here.
