In her second year as ambassador for Shaping Futures, Janet Maitland has named her new team who will be heading out to India this month.

Shaping Futures is a social initiative launched by Schwarzkopf Professional in cooperation with SOS Children’s Villages, helping to transform the lives of young children around the world.

Alongside Janet and two Schwarzkopf Professional Technicians, the team of eight hairdressers were chosen to provide a six week intense training course supporting disadvantaged young people to learn hairdressing skills in order to get a job and earn a living.

The 30 students will be taught how to cut, straighten, curl, style, perm and colour hair, and at the end of the course will be placed for apprenticeships within one of the large hairdressing chains in India.

Alongside ambassador Janet, the team are: Melenie Tudor, En Route Hair & Beauty; Nicole Parkes, Wish Hairdressing; Margarita Halamenda, Rizzo; Sarah-Jane McBride, John Gillespie; Sarah Franklin, The Hair Shop; Sarah Brown, Janet Maitland Hair Excellence; Anthony McMeiken, Janet Maitland Hair Excellence

Janet says: “I’m a calmer person now, being in the SOS Children’s village makes you realise how important education is. I was looking for people who really wanted to make a difference, are good team leaders and who have compassion. We all try to support each other as much as possible as you definitely need a positive environment to work in. The team I’ve got this year are great, and I can’t wait to go over to India with them.”
