R+Co GOOD HAIR DIARIES TAKE CENTRE STAGE IN SOHO

R+Co GOOD HAIR DIARIES TAKE CENTRE STAGE IN SOHO
Sam Robinson

Central London’s Soho was buzzing on the evening of Sunday 6th October when the Soho Theatre, Dean Street, played host to this year’s R+Co show, The Good Hair Diaries. Presented by Rebel Beauty Brands and hosted by bebop salon owners and R+Co Collective members Pont Smith and Chloe Herve, this was a conceptual adaptation to the title.

Three Chapters

Presented as a story in three chapters that detailed a time sequence over the course of a night out with the narrative of hair, this was a multi-media immersive show with audience participation that led to the overall outcome of the ‘diary’.

Inspirations

Exploring subcultures including ‘new romantics’, also known at ‘the blitz kids’ and ‘punk’ eras to ‘disco’, Pont Smith and Chloe Herve discussed the generations while working on the six models who were presented on stage as each individual character was created, including make-up on stage, in front of a live sold-out audience.

Standing Out

Chloe said: “Subcultures were always a way in which a group of people wanted to stand out from all the mainstream cultures and trends. To me this goes back to something I quote a lot and that’s bringing hairdressing back to the person. Being individual, standing out, adapting and personalising each style to that one person.”

Reinvent A Classic

Pont added: “Our creative process started at thinking about how we could reinvent the classic hairdressing show, push it forward, break down boundaries, entwining the elements of entertainment and education to offer to our audience. The Good Hair Diaries was born!”

Closing Party

Following the close of the show, it was time to dim the lights and turn up the volume on R+Co Radio, as the team enjoyed the remainder of the evening with guests for the R+Co #salon19 Social – drinks flowing, of course. R+Co SWAG shop was available until lights went out at the end of the stunning event.
