Young Hairdresser Goes for Gold

Date Added: 2010-07-16

An ambitious young hairdresser is well on his way to achieving his dreams after coming first place in a national hairdressing competition. Cregg McPherson scooped the gold award at the L’Oréal  Academy for winning the World Skills UK Challenge in the Afro Caribbean category.

One of the highest scoring students in the competition to date, Jamaican born McPherson studied Level 3 Hairdressing at South Thames College. After the competition he was invited to the House of Commons to represent the college.

Described by his tutors as ‘humble and ambitious’ Cregg is said to push the boundaries and has a talent for not only creating wonderful hairstyles but also envisaging a whole look for a person.

In the future McPherson hopes to own his own salon and for now he will continue studying at the college, studying BTEC Production Arts.

“The course has allowed me to be more professional, work effectively, improve my customer service and most of all I’ve enjoyed the scientific elements of hairdressing,” says McPherson.
