Rushing Ahead

Date Added: 2009-02-12

Rush Advanced Academy opened in 2008, with the aim of providing training and support from assistant styling right through to full creative expression.

If you haven't heard of Rush, the UK's leading franchise salon, then you must have been living underground for the last decade. The new academy is the brainchild of Rush owners Andrew Phouli and Stell Andrew, who created Rush 14 years ago and have now expanded their business with two academies, 36 salons and more than 600 members of staff.

The state-of the-art training centre in Croydon is home to the award-winning Rush Artistic Team. Salon Business went to the academy to meet with two rising stars, Tina Farey and Paola Fattorusso. The girls form part of an education team at the academy providing all of the stylists, receptionists and assistants with continous training and development opportunities.

"For me hairdressing is real artistry. You can use hair almost as a canvas - creating any shape ", says Tina. Her career started as a young hairdresser at Rush and now she specialising in session and show work. Tina has previously been a finalist for avant-garde hairdresser of the year at the British Hairdressing Awards and has also been named Southern Hairdresser of the Year. Tina's passion for the industry is evident from her animated expression and  "You have the ability to change the way people feel." Tina says excitedly.

The academy itself is also a source of real passion for the girls. "The reason we (Rush) put it into place was mainly to focus on the people joining the company to make them feel at home and understand what Rush is about" Paola confirms. Paulo's career started as a young trainee with a true love of the industry.
