Behind the scenes at London Fashion Week

Date Added: 2009-02-23

Complimentary Moet Champagne Cocktails, free salon appointments and the chance to hob-nob with some industry greats - yep, there's not much that beats London Fashion Week.  I kicked off my LFW experience with the show to end all shows- the Central Saint Martins MA event which was sponsored by L'Oréal Professionnel. It was pretty awe-inspiring - you can read the latest on the hair and beauty trends in Salon Business' news section, but lets just say that it was very, very creative and incredibly unique. I had to spend a fair proportion of the show just scouring the audience as there were so many industry greats present - including Erin O'Conner and Zandra Rhodes - and I didn't want to miss a thing.

Sunday - known as Ladies Day (as it features major shows from the likes of Betty Jackson) - gave me a fantastic opportnity to go to some of the emerging talent shows at the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Stage. The collections were daring and edgy. I had a chance to get backstage and talk to Efi Davies from Toni & Guy about the hair she created for the Nico D show (which featured light blonde and rainbow coloured hairpieces covered with netting). "It took a long time to source the hair - and a lot quicker to put it together!". She said, discussing the preparations for the show.

Toni & Guy also had a salon located in the main exhibition hall which was a great way to get a quick blow-dry or even a complete haircut. My stylist at the salon, Andrea Rolph was just as enthusiastic as me. "We came down from Hereford", she said. "We were so excited to be part of London Fashion Week".

Unfortuntely there was just not enough time to go to every show, but as I was running down Cromwell Road in a pair of 4inch heels - I knew I had at least tried my hardest to rush around to as many as I could!
