Salon Business Online caught up with the ‘King of Colour’, Mark Leeson at his latest masterclass at the Goldwell Academy. The evening was an inspirational event showcasing fabulous hair creations and demonstrations. Mark talked about his trend predictions and his forthcoming collection (due out in April).
Mark’s career in the industry spans 25 years. During this time he has won numerous awards and competitions including being a three time winner of the Eastern Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards.
“Hair at the moment is about going back to the 1980’s.” Mark said as he showed off a feminine undercut on stage, saying that it is a good way to create a ‘sleeker’ looking shape.
With five models with very distinctive looks, Mark created a very editorial and catwalk-inspired up-do, a short platinum blonde texturized look, a fabulous colour-worked crop, a blonde grown out bob and an avant-garde creation complete with artistically dyed hairpiece.
To create the colour and look Mark used foliage techniques and coloured the top section of hair in a petal sections around the crown in an ‘almost rose like shape’ as he described.
During the evening Mark talked about the hair work and how to achieve the looks. The 50 strong audience listened intently as they heard about how Mark achieves his signature looks and fabulous creations.
The team at Mark Leeson Hair Body and Mind in Mansfield are a talented bunch. Shaun Hall, who has just been crowned British Newcomer of the Year featured on the cover of January’s RADAR magazine. He emerged from behind the scenes later on in the evening to talk about his experience working alongside Mark. “It’s been so much fun to work with Mark, he is a great teacher. I’ve learnt so much in the eight years I have been with him,” said Shaun.
Mark added: “We have a lot of training nights in the salon where we tear sheets out of magazines and try and re-create the look.”
The two hour presentation left the audience feeling energised and inspired. The team at Salon Business Online looks forward to seeing his full collection when it comes out in April!
