Jacks of London takes on the world and wins

Jacks of London takes on the world and wins
Sam Robinson

The relentless pursuit of excellence by the Jacks of London team has paid off this month with two triumphs in the same weekend!

The Accolades

Clapham-based barber Kipp Evans was named UK International Barber of the Year and won third place overall in the International Barber Awards held in Nuremberg, beating barbers from all around the world. At exactly the same time he heard of his success, Jacks managing director Sue Whitehead was collecting the top prize for marketing at the Hampshire Salon Awards, which took place at the Hilton in Southampton.

The Entry

Kipp, who was one of just two British barbers who made it all the way through to the IBA finals, organised by European barbers supplier 101 Barbers, had to shave the head of a model then trim his beard in the first round. After winning through to the final, he had to produce an on-trend look for 2019.

An Awesome Time

‘It was so tense, especially as I had to organise my models from the UK without seeing them in person before the actual competition,’ said Kipp, who joined Jacks just months ago. ‘But it was awesome to represent Britain overseas and to actually win a place on the podium and the UK title. British barbering leads in the world; I went to Germany determined to prove it.’

The Marketing Trailblazer Prize

Meanwhile, Jacks Southampton, which opened just 18 months ago, swooped in to take the Marketing Trailblazer prize for its Join Our Pride campaign, a multi-focus, mixed-media programme to drive client loyalty to the brand while reaching out to potential barbers keen to move to an award-winning company.

Best Service Guaranteed

‘We have spent the past 20 years building our brand so that we can to guarantee our clients the best service possible, and that includes recruiting the best. But attracting good staff is just as relentless a task as proving our worth to our clients day-on-day, so creating compelling marketing campaigns is crucial to our success,’ said Sue, who when collecting the award thanked Jacks’ already award-winning marketing director, Emma Lee, who’s been with the company for more than 10 years.

Most Successful?

The victories follow a year of successes in awards, with the group reaching the final in 12 different competitions throughout the year, making this troop of highly talented barbers possibly the most successful in the country. ‘Over the past year, we’ve been delighted to get to the finals of so many awards, encouraging our barbers to pit their skills against the best worldwide, continued Sue. ‘The past 12 months have been amazing but 2019 is going to be even better.’
