F.A.M.E. Team Practise Presentation Skills with Simon Shaw

F.A.M.E. Team Practise Presentation Skills with Simon Shaw
Sam Robinson

Presenting on stage can play a big part in any hairdresser’s career, which is why workshops to improve presentation skills are such a popular choice within the Fellowship.

Simon Shaw

For this year’s F.A.M.E. Team, it was none other than Fellowship Chairman, Simon Shaw, who generously gave up his time to help them enhance their skills and confidence in presenting on stage. The team will be enjoying plenty of stage time over the next 12 months, both at Fellowship events and other industry occasions including Salon International.

A Skill To Master

Having the confidence to get on stage and showcase hair is one thing; talking through what you’re doing, explaining your ideas and inspirations, and keeping the audience engaged and inspired is another skill set entirely – and one that any good hairdresser needs to master.

Better Presenting

For this workshop, Simon – alongside Project Leader, Nick Irwin – shared his immense insight and experience in stage work to help the team feel more prepared, more confident and more comfortable presenting. Each member of the team came with a pre-prepared moodboard, which they were tasked with presenting to the rest of the group. With feedback from Simon, and their peers, the team then adapted their presentations and delivered them once again – this time with even more confidence and expertise.

Adding Structure

“It was really helpful to learn how to add structure to our presentations,” says team member Alastair Jubbs of VAE Hair. “With Simon’s help, we learnt to deliver our looks and creativity with impact. Taking on board what I’ve learnt today, I’m now going to make sure that I plan, plan and plan some more prior to every presentation. I also want to make sure that I engage and excite the audience with everything I’m doing.”

More Confident

After three sessions with the F.A.M.E. Team, the group of future hairdressing stars are now starting to feel more confident – and getting prepared for the exciting adventures they still have to come.“After the session with Simon, I felt we were starting to understand each other at a deeper level,” says Alastair. “Today has made us stronger as a team and I can’t wait to present alongside the other three, and Nick – especially in Australia at Hair Expo.”
