CORAL IS THE NEW BLACK

CORAL IS THE NEW BLACK
Rebecca Parker

Inspired by a soft, pastel Ibiza sunset, coralage is a unique shade of rose gold created by The Chapel.

Luxury hair salon The Chapel has launched its bespoke colour ‘coralage’ ahead of summer 2017. Expert colourist, Symon May, was one of eleven stylists from across the UK chosen by Redken to create a new hair colour using their new collection City Beats.

Accepting the challenge, Symon created the new colour for the model Zoe Newlove. Zoe wanted a soft, wearable version of the pastel coral trend, and hence ‘coralage’ was born. Symon first balayaged her hair to a soft blonde using Redken Freehand and 30 vols. He then placed some panels of magenta and City Beats Clear in diamond-shaped sections on the underneath of the hair. After this, he mixed a little Midtown Magenta with the shade Yellow Cab and a little West Village Sunset (a bright, vivid orange) with a lot of clear. Finally, he applied this to the rest of Zoe’s hair.

During the shoot, Zoe told Symon she lived in Ibiza, which inspired him to create a colour like a soft, pastel sunset.

The entire look was created using Redken’s new range. City Beats, which was launched earlier this month, is a range of bold, semi-permanent hair colour. The seven edgy, vibrant shades are inspired by the streets of NYC and include names like Times Square Teal and East Village Violet. City Beats can be applied to both natural and previously coloured hair. The lighter your starting level, the brighter your end result will be. As with any ‘top coat’ colour, if the canvas is uneven, the end result will be uneven.

The product comes in a no-mess formula which is easy to apply and delivers long-lasting semi-permanent results. Its acidic formulation conditions and seals the hair’s cuticle to make the hair healthier and the colour pop.
