Excitement, noise, anticipation, nerves and outstanding performance were the watch words of the eagerly awaited Schwarzkopf Professional Creative Team Competition which took place at the Midland Hotel in Manchester.

The national event, with just nine finalists, is an annual project for teams to collaborate ideas and improve their presentation and technical skills without the input of salon owners or managers. The competition is all about developing and encouraging emerging talent and testing presentation nerve.

Every stylist on the team has to talk through their hair work and present their model to an enthusiastic audience of 250 of their peers, managers and owners. The pressure mounts with the just four minutes allowed to complete their stage presentations.

“These young teams are quite amazing, they bring their own interpretation on the brief with their music, dance routines and content that has to reflect the 2013 Schwarzkopf Essential Looks showing trends in men’s hairdressing, colour technique, shape and styling and the standard of work was exciting to see,” said judge, Neil Atkinson of Mahogany Hairdressing.

The winners are:

Best Overall Team – Barrie Stephen Hair, Leicester

Best Team Presentation – Janet Maitland Hair Excellence, Durham

Best Colour Technique – Hensmans, Northampton

Best Creative Men’s Look – Cross & Co Hairdressing, Shipley
